Giro have introduced a new helmet to their lineup, with the introduction of the Aether MIPS!

Three years in the making, The Aether™ MIPS combines airy, open design with a revolution in rotational energy management to advance head protection for cyclists. Inside the Aether, a dual-density EPS foam liner helps to manage a wide range of impact energies, while also boasting deep internal channeling to provide cooling airflow. Our proprietary MIPS Spherical technology is embedded between the layers of EPS foam – instead of against the rider’s head – giving riders the benefits of MIPS without any obstruction to comfort or cooling power. Outside, a sleek 6-piece shell forms a stunning silhouette around the massive vents, which get added structural reinforcement via a shatter-proof “halo” that runs throughout the helmet. The final touch is our Roc Loc® Air fit system, featuring three dimensional fit tuning, that allows easy adjustment in seconds for the ultimate in comfort.

Helmets with MIPS technology help to reduce energy transmitted to the brain from linear impacts and angled impacts. The Aether, with MIPS Spherical, can provide an additional measure of protection.

MIPS Spherical was designed with the goal of reducing energy during an impact. We worked hand-in-hand with the neuroscientists and researchers behind MIPS, the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. After five years of testing by Giro (and more than two decades of research and development behind MIPS’ patents) we believe that MIPS is the leading technology designed to reduce rotational energy from angled impacts.

Many other helmets available on the market incorporate MIPS by adding a plastic slip-plane inside the helmet. With MIPS Spherical, however, two layers of EPS foam become the essential components of the slip-plane system. This may provide more protection without any obstruction to comfort or ventilation. This elegant design allows the Aether’s exterior liner/helmet shell to rotate independently around your head during an angled impact and may result in a reduction of rotational forces.

Giro have done an amazing job with the colourways for the aether, check out this rad oil slick ‘matte black pearl’ finish! OIL SLICK FTW.
