We’re pleased to share a brand new and exciting endurance event coming September 2015 – dubbed Revolve24; a global series of cycling relay races set at iconic motor circuits around the world. Each race will see participants take on a 24 hour race in a team relay format on closed circuit race tracks that hold huge sporting heritage.

The inaugural event will be hosted at the iconic Brands Hatch, which is rather fitting, as it was originally a cycling track in the 1920’s! The track is now used for everything from the Grand Prix, Rally Cross and even hosted the 2012 Summer Paralympics. It was described as ‘the best track in the world’ by Australian F1 driver, Gerhard Berger.

Veloism was invited along to the official launch with Revolve24’s ambassador and Olympic triple-gold-medal winning track cyclist, Jason Kenny, where we checked out the course and Jason set a casual lap time of 6:16:20 on the undulating, 4.9 km circuit.

“I’ve always been a keen motorcycling enthusiast since a young age, so to combine this with cycling, Revolve24 is a dream event for me to be involved in. Brands Hatch is one of the world’s most iconic race circuits, so to cycle round it was a pretty surreal experience but insanely fun. To see thousands of people here racing round the course on their bikes and enjoying a weekend of cycling entertainment is going to be great, and from taking on the course, the cycling side of things won’t disappoint!” – Jason Kenny

With a smooth, pothole-free surface, no traffic and the mental challenge of picking the best racing line, the freedom of unadulterated, fast racing struck home with Jason – the perfect environment to compete.

Taking place on 19th and 20th September, Revolve24’s first host track, Brand Hatch, will provide a thrilling and challenging ride for participants with its smooth asphalt, banking corners, multiple climbs (65m per lap!) and exhilarating descents. Throughout the course of the race some teams could potentially cover up to 965 km each whilst climbing over 16,000m!

Racing teams can be single sex or mixed – disabled or abled bodied and entrants can be soloists, duos or teams of four, six or eight. Aiming to be as inclusive as possible British Cycling have agreed that race licences are not required to compete – so competition can be joined by everyone who wants to.

Non-riding ‘Team Captains’ and team supporters are also welcome to enter & attend to provide strategy, support and encouragement.

Something pretty interesting and unique to the event, is that they’ve partnered with the folks at Map My Tracks to create a bespoke app that gets the competition started before the event! It’s still in development, but we’re told that it’ll connect to ‘the most popular cycling platforms’ and calculate the riders grid starting position, based on factors such as distance, average speed and elevation covered. Pretty cool!

Once the red lights go out at the start of the race, real-time performance data, individual and team tracking information will be available enabling competitors to know where they stand in the race for King/Queen of The Mountains, Fastest Lap, Sprinter as well as Overall Champions.

“Revolve24 offers the ultimate cycle race experience, it’s challenging and exciting, but more importantly, it will provide cyclists with an unforgettable experience. We have always wanted to progress ways to participate in cycling; keeping a team focus within a safe, but fast and furious environment. Revolve24 encompasses all of the above around some of the globe’s most famous motor racing circuits.” Simon Lillistone, Race Director of Revolve24

Revolve24 also has a very worth cause too, partnering with the Breast Cancer Care charity, allowing hardy riders to challenge themselves and also support an amazing charity.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and there are half a million people living today who have had a diagnosis. Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide charity providing specialist support and tailored information for anyone affected. Funds raised through Revolve24 allow Breast Cancer Care to continue to provide its vital support services for free.

“Breast Cancer Care is delighted to be the official charity partner for the world’s first ever Revolve24 event. We are excited to offer cyclists an exhilarating 24 hour challenge at the iconic Brands Hatch, it will be a test of their physical and mental endurance. Join us to help raise money for people facing the brutality of breast cancer.” Tom Whitehead, Sporting & Challenge Events Manager at Breast Cancer Care

After Brands Hatch, Revolve24 will embark on a world tour throughout 2016 including famous motor racing circuits in the USA, France, Spain, Portugal and Canada. We’ll hopefully be riding Brands Hatch in September and urge you all to do the same!
