Chris King needs no introduction here. The Portland-based component manufacturer is well known for it’s high-end hubs, headsets and bottom brackets that come in a variety of shiny anodized colours.
The company used North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show to announce and showcase a new trio of limited matte colours, matte black, matte slate and matte emerald.
Sadly, the ‘Bourbon’ colour way that was a NAHBS favourite didn’t make it to full production, with Chris King citing problems with the stability of the dyes required. With a only a handful of these in existence, expect to pay a pretty penny for these (if you can find them for sale).

Our favourite colour won’t be produced
Some of the older colours are being discontinued to ‘make room’ for the new ones, including Pewter and Pink. The company introduced a limited edition line of pink anodized headsets and hubs as part of its Pretty and Strong campaign to support breast cancer awareness in 2004. Pink became an in-line option in 2006.

The Rapha-esque Pink no longer produced
All three colors that did make the cut are available for ordering now. Limited Edition Matte Emerald is available for pre-order now and has a 40-day lead time. The last day to place an order for Matte Emerald is June 12, 2017.
